Before I start my build-log writing, let me share with you some basic name of parts of a ship.
But first, let us know how to differentiate a boat and a ship first!!
So, here's some answers by random guys:
"A ship can carry a boat; a boat cannot carry a ship. "
- David McCann
"Nothing to do with the size.. it's all to do with function. The function of a boat happens on its deck, while the function of a ship happens inside it."
- Ian Buchen
"One answer is that a ship can carry a boat, but a boat cannot carry a ship. Another is that a ship's captain gets annoyed if you refer to his vessel as a boat, but a boat's captain does not get annoyed if you refer to his vessel as a ship."
- William Gosling
Yea!! They are all correct!! So, to conclude...
Ships are larger than boats, where it's only possible to have boats on ships but not the other way round; and ships will have at least a deck, and function runs inside it!
Basic Parts of a Ship

1) Port - Left side of a ship
2) Starboard - Right side of a ship
3) Stem - Front part
4) Stern - Back part
5) Masts - "Pillars" of ships. For a 3 masted sail ship, they will be Fore, Main and Mizzen masts.
6) Bowsprit - A pole, extending forward from the ship's prow.
7) Ratlines - The net-like riggings that allow sailors to reach the crow nests.
8) Yard - The spar on a mast which sails are set. (Refer picture below)

Ok... So, those are the VERY basic parts that you MUST know! I think I'll go more detail on parts in my build log.
Anyway, in case you'd like to know more first.. Here's the thing!!
A Ship of War - Take a good look if you really want to learn some parts here!
